Preparing for your Session
Intake Form
Please fill out this Intake Form to help me learn more about you. Feel free to fill out as much or as little as you wish and are comfortable with. Please submit it before our first session, if possible, or within the first few sessions. It will give me helpful information to guide our work together.
What to Expect:
Prepare your Space
For online sessions, please choose a relatively quiet, private space where you can be undisturbed throughout the session. Choose a comfortable chair, couch, or other supportive seating, and consider having props like pillows, a blanket, a heating pad, tissues, water, or tea nearby for added comfort, and wear clothing that allows you to move freely.
First Sessions
Our initial sessions will focus on building a connection and getting familiar with working together. You’ll have the opportunity to share your current situation, goals, and aspirations for this work, as well as what brought you here. There’s no pressure to share your full history right away; these details can unfold naturally over time.
Mindfulness in Hakomi
Hakomi invites us to deeply explore our inner world by dropping into a mindful state. In our first session, I’ll guide you into mindfulness for the first time, where you’ll experience being somatically witnessed and supported. Early sessions are about creating a foundation of relational safety, allowing us to move into deeper mindfulness explorations at a pace that feels right for you.
Experiential Learning
Hakomi is rooted in direct, experiential learning rather than traditional talk therapy. As we deepen into mindfulness, we’ll study your internal organization, history, and barriers, often by slowing down and tuning into subtle experiences. I’ll guide you with small, focused explorations to deepen your self-study. This approach helps us learn from the experience itself, rather than merely talking about it. Because Hakomi differs significantly from traditional therapy, it may feel unfamiliar at first. Over time, however, this direct and intimate way of being with yourself can become deeply rewarding.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns about the session. I look forward to working with you!
